Week 5 - Transition from MTC to Mission Field

This week was totally crazy. Our flights got all messed up and my first flight was to San Francisco and then we had over an hour until we had another flight to Houston Texas. We didn't land in Texas until 10pm on Wednesday night.

Then Sister Molisi and I went to the mission home..

On Thursday morning, I met my companion. Her name is Sister West. We're in Katy, Texas!!!!!

GET THIS: SHE WENT TO SCHOOL WITH MY BIG SISTA KATIE!!!

As soon as we made that connection, it was like we were like long lost friends. We've been doing really well together. We've found so many people to teach! I LOVE TRACTING OH MY GOSH. IF I COULD TRACK EVERY PLACE HERE I WOULD!!!!

I've eaten so much while I've been here, the members feed us so well! I went to Chili's, Jimmy Changas, and the best thing that I ate is : JELLY FISH TENTACLES!!!! It was so silky and slimy and squishy. They kept calling the one I ate Junior because it's like the one from Finding Nemo. (If you don't  know what I'm talking about, go watch it now).

The elders here are so amazing and super funny. I love them already. One elder is from Arizona!!! AHHH it's been so awesome!!!!

Anyway, the quote of the week is from our beloved Thomas S. Monson:

"the past is behind: learn from it.
the future is ahead: prepare for it.
the present is here: live in it. "

As I continue to grow and become the missionary that my Heavenly Father wants me to be, I still need to do my part and remain focused and be the best that I can be. I love all the people from home that are sending their love each day through prayer, those on missions somewhere in the world, and people everywhere I have yet to meet!!!!

A Post from Mom - 1/18/2018

18 January 2018

Dear Sister Mullings ,

Last night your missionary arrived in the Texas Houston Mission. Sister Mullings is safely here and looks very excited to be in Texas.

Each missionary came with a bright look in their eyes of determination and willingness to participate in taking the gospel to the people living in the mission boundaries.  We love each one already and are so glad to have her with us.

Thank you for the support and love you give your missionary.

Warm regards,

President and Sister Jordan Peterson

Week 4 - MTC (Last week before transfer to TX)

So this week was insane and jam packed.

Last Tuesday night for Devotional, you won't believe who we had come and speak with us!! I guess I'll tell you! ELDER DAVID A. BEDNAR AND SISTER SUSAN BEDNAR!!!!!

I think I scared my district because I absolutely love listening to Elder Bednar speak.

When Sister Bednar spoke some of the things that stuck out to me were: Come to know who you truly are; return with honor: represent yourself, your family, the church, and the Lord Jesus Christ by wearing this name tag each day and teaching his gospel unto all people; she asked us to look for places where people in the Book of Mormon are strengthened by the Lord; and make sure we say a prayer of gratitude each day to thank our father in heaven for all that he does for us.

I could go on and on about what Elder Bednar said but I'll do my best to keep it brief: ask to know then do as he has commanded; he went on to talk about what will happen with the first presidency now that President Thomas Spencer Monson has indeed passed away. He explained how the next President of the church will come to be. He continued to discuss the power of the priesthood and how the priesthood is the power to do as he would do and say what he would say. Priesthood keys is channel for revelation. He used this analogy about an umbrella and he said: "The man will hold the Umbrella but the woman may be under the umbrella and be safe from the rain." Even though men hold the priesthood, women still take advantage of the benefits and we have the power to get blessings and perform certain ordinances. the joke he made is that every man needs a woman and that without Susan (his wife) he most definitely wouldn't be with us that day or even the amazing apostles that we know and love, they most definitely need their wives to be who they are fully. I absolutely love that.

We got 11 new missionaries but we had one go home on Friday evening. :'( The 4  new sisters are Sister Molisi and I's roomies!!

We got to go to the temple twice this week. The first time was with Brother Hall (one of the counselors for my branch presidency) and we got some awesome pictures. We only went to feel the spirit and so he could talk to us 5 missionaries some more. Today Sister Molisi and I went to the temple with our roomies.

Yesterday morning Elder Wooden left for his mission since he is going to Houston Texas East and we're going Houston Texas. We already miss our elders and sisters in the Charleston West Virginia Mission, but they emailed us and they are doing amazing in the field already!!!

This is my last update from the MTC and I've loved my time here and I've learned so much.

Next Stop: HOUSTON TEXAS Y'ALL!!!!

Week 3 - MTC

Hey Y'all

This week was pretty crazy. All the missionaries that are not in my district left last Wednesday morning, and we got 24 new missionaries on Wednesday afternoon. We have had a blast getting to know them. They are definitely keeping us all on our toes, sometimes we don't know all the answers so we have to call President Ford. There's a couple that are from Arizona. And there is a handful that are going to the Arizona Scottsdale Mission. I love my entire zone so very much, and I can't imagine leaving them. They learned very quick and they understand now that there is a time to be serious and there is a time to have fun. It took a few days and as a STL, I was reminded that it was my job to help and correct them if they're being goofy but it needs to be serious. Like I said, they learn very quickly.

Tomorrow, sisters Chamberlain and Tanuvasa (Roommates) are leaving to head to their mission in Charleston, West Virginia. Elders Anderson, Harrison and Hendricks are also leaving tomorrow to leave to the same mission. I am very sad that they are leaving because they are some of the best missionaries that I've ever met and I love them very much. Good news is we are getting 12 new missionaries tomorrow afternoon. I am very excited and I can't wait to meet them and get to know them.

On Sunday at about 5:45 in the morning while I was in the middle of curling my hair, the power in ENTIRE MTC TURNED OFF. So have my hair was curled and the other half was straight. They started calling me the crazy mom. You know like the mom that has so many kids and she looks so tired and about ready to take her hair out. That's what I looked like. My comp and I taught relief Society as well.

On Monday, don't ask me why but I saw a BOM in french. I bought it and I'm at the part where he had just killed Laban and was wearing his clothes and he was headed back to his brothers. I'm learning more now that I'm reading it in a different language. I read it all out loud as well so it's that much harder, and I love it!! I'm excited to learn more this way!!

We went to the temple today again at 6am. We ate at 9am and we took some awesome district pictures and overral I just feel it was a really great week.
I was incredibly sad when I heard the news about President Monson! But I received a quote this week from Sister Curtis and I absolutely love it! It says:
" Do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle."

I honestly think that the holy ghost prompts me to do things that challenge me but these challenges help my heart and mind to expand and grow. I learn many amazing and wonderful new things each day. I have learned so much being here but I'm super stoked to get to the field.

I love you all and thank you to everyone who emails/writes me during the week, you make me so happy.

Lots of love!! xoxo

~Sister Mullings
